Pennsylvania Selects OZ Systems for Newborn Screening Data Management System
Tuesday, July 14, 2009 - Arlington, Texas – To help protect the health of 150,000 babies born each year in a major expansion of newborn screening, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania awarded a contract to OZ Systems for a better information management system after a review lasting two years. The only vendor that met key requirements including offering a web-based hearing and metabolic case management and tracking component was OZ Systems.
The State awarded the contract for a minimum of five years to OZ Systems of Arlington, TX to use e-Screener Plus (eSP™). OZ Systems will host, maintain and support the database as well as provide pre-installation planning, data migration from an older system, needs and gap analysis, customization, configuration, enhancements, training and support for technical and program services. The initial implementation will be delivered this year.
The Pennsylvania Department of Health is ramping up to meet the terms of a 2008 state law, Act 36, which mandates expansion of newborn screening follow-up this year. The law adds 22 genetic and metabolic conditions this year to the PA newborn screening follow-up panel, for a total of 29 including newborn hearing screening. Mandated follow-up services include notifying primary care providers of a baby’s potentially fatal disease.
“For more than 13 years, OZ Systems’ commitment has been to raise the standards for information management in increasing important and complex newborn screening programs, said Terese Finitzo, PhD, CEO of OZ Systems. “We are honored by the decision of Pennsylvania to join our growing list of US and international public health customers.”
OZ Systems informational management solutions and tools help public health authorities protect the health of more than 1,250,000 babies born each year in more than 5,000 hospitals on five continents.
