UK Hearing Pioneer Honoured

Friday, October 31, 2008 - Professor Adrian Davis OBE, Director of the NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Programme has been honoured as part of a new interactive exhibition in Manchester, [England], called Our Kid, which celebrates 60 years of the NHS and looks to the future of healthcare.

The exhibit recognises the NHS Newborn Screening Programme as a key medical breakthrough…

Professor Davis said: “…The NHS Newborn Hearing Screening Programme is seen as a world leader but recognition at home is just as important. I hope this exhibition will put even more of a spotlight on the importance of early identification and diagnosis of hearing impairment and deafness.”…

All parents of babies born in England have been offered a hearing screen since March 2006. The programme has now screened over two and a half million babies and over 3,500 babies have had a permanent hearing impairment detected by the programme.
