Texas Outsources EHDI Operations to OZ Systems
Austin, Texas – September 2005 – The Texas Department of State Health Services (DSHS) extended its long-standing contract with OZ Systems to continue running the daily operations of its Texas Early Hearing Detection & Intervention (TEHDI) program.
Under the contract, OZ Systems:
- Licenses a web-based software application, (eScreenerPlusTM - eSP™) to almost 200 hospitals to report newborn hearing screening data
- Conducts hospital newborn hearing screening program certification reviews
- Provides technical support to end users and hospital IT departments
- Provides clinical support services to hospital screeners and program managers
- Delivers administrative case management services
- Provides data management and reporting services
By partnering with OZ Systems, the leader in newborn public health information management, DSHS has been able to upgrade the reporting and tracking system used by the statewide program to a web-based application. In 2004, hospitals across the state used OZ Systems’ web-based eSPTM system to submit data to TEHDI on over 345,000 births.
The web-based screening and tracking system has opened doors to create a seamless service delivery system for children who are deaf and hard of hearing. The TEHDI program and OZ Systems are working proactively with the Texas Part C Program, Early Childhood Intervention (ECI), to integrate data on the common population served by the two agencies.
Using eSPTM, the referral process is seamless for the infants served by the two agencies. eSPTM also makes data readily available to providers involved in a child’s care. As data are updated in the child’s single, integrated hearing health record, the information is likewise available to the agencies to fulfill their respective missions.
The TEHDI program is recognized as one of the premier newborn hearing screening programs in the world. It consistently ranks as one of the top performing programs in the U.S. Texas has renewed its contract with OZ Systems annually since it was originally executed in 2000.
